Gattis takes batting practice

Evan Gattis took batting practice Friday, the first baseball activity the Braves catcher has done in 11 days.

Gattis has been out with first strep throat diagnosed on Sept. 8 and then kidney stones diagnosed on Wednesday. He missed the previous nine games going into Friday’s series-opening game against the Mets.

There remains no timetable for Gattis’ return. Gonzalez said to his knowledge he has not passed a kidney stone. Gonzalez left open the possibility that Gattis could pinch-hit if he responded well after taking batting practice.

Christian Bethancourt started behind the plate.
