Kennesaw State left-handed pitcher Travis Bergen was the first Georgia college prospect off the board at the 2015 MLB Draft, going 212th to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Bergen usually throws his fastball 88-92 mph, but he’s been recorded at 94 mph. He went 6-4 with a 3.15 ERA last season. His control was an issue, as he walked 31 batters in 14 starts.
He was the No. 4 college prospect in Georgia, according to Baseball America.
Baseball America’s No. 1 Georgia college prospect, shortstop Kal Simmons, went off the board 226th to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Also from Kennesaw State, Simmons’ biggest draw is his combination of power and speed. He hit 10 home runs and stole 15 bases in 55 games this season, but his average was just .269, and he never finished a season above .289 at Kennesaw State.
University of Georgia left-handed pitcher Ryan Lawlor was next, getting picked 240th by his home-state Braves. Lawlor was 5-7 with a 3.67 ERA in 2015, and he struck out 84 batters over 73 2/3 innings pitched.
