Jewelry maker Jostens started selling replicas of the Chicago Cubs’ gaudy World Series title ring 10 days ago.
The most expensive version of the ring, a 10-karat white gold ring featuring 144 diamonds, 55 sapphires and 13 rubies valued at $10,800, has officially sold out.
Only 108 such rings were produced. That’s 108 for every year the Cubs did not win a World Series.
Other replicas, priced between $299 and $6,500, also are selling fast.
Chris Poitras, who leads Jostens' college and sports division, told ESPN that the $499 deluxe ring, which comes in 10-karat white gold or sterling silver, is by far the most popular purchase.
The player’s version of the ring came in 14-karat white gold ring with a total of 214 diamonds, three karats of red rubies and 2.5 karats of sapphires. The top of the ring features 33 red rubies forming the team's bull's-eye logo surrounded by 72 round white diamonds, all in a circular perimeter. The bezel features 108 round white diamonds.
Those cost about $70,000 each. And only 108 of those were produced.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports the Cubs are barring recipients of the World Series mementos from selling the rings in the open market.
