The Braves recalled outfielder Adam Duvall, along with reliever Darren O’Day, before Thursday’s series opener against the Nationals. It further deepens the team’s depth since rosters expanded from 25 to 40 on Sept. 1.
Catcher Alex Jackson also was recalled but was placed on the 60-day injured list with a left knee sprain, ending his season. The team currently has three seasoned catchers on its roster, Brian McCann, Tyler Flowers and Francisco Cervelli. The move cleared a spot on the 40-man roster for O’Day.
Duvall has spent most of this season with Triple-A Gwinnett, but he’s hit .241 with six home runs and 11 RBIs in 83 at-bats in the majors (26 games). He’s also struck out 29 times. Duvall hit .266 with 32 homers and 93 RBIs for the Stripers, earning team MVP honors.
Jackson spent most of his season in Triple-A with a brief taste of the bigs. In the majors, Jackson played in four games and was 0-for-13, with five strikeouts. He hit .229 with 28 homers and 65 RBIs in 85 games with Gwinnett.
The Braves’ roster currently includes 32 players.
