WASHINGTON – The Braves came to our nation’s capital winless and left four days later even more winless, lugging a couple of dubious streaks that have become quite conspicuous.

After being swept in a four-game series at Nationals Park that ended Thursday, the Braves are 0-9, their worst start since the 1988 Braves lost 10 games to start their 106-loss season. The franchise has been in existence more than a century, and the current team is just the third to start 0-9. The 1919 Boston Braves got their first win in Game 10.

The Braves open a three-game series Friday at Marlins Park in Miami.

The Braves have lost 14 in a row at Nationals Park since the beginning of 2015, their franchise’s longest losing streak at any stadium since the Boston Braves lost 13 consecutive games at Brooklyn’s Ebbets Field during 1951-1952.

The skid at Nationals Park is the longest road losing streak for any one team team since the Toronto Blue Jays lost 17 in a row at Yankee Stadium during parts of three seasons in 2012-2014. The Braves have just one win in their past 19 games in Washington.

And it’s not just a road thing: The Braves have lost 27 of their past 36 games against the Nationals home and away, while being outscored 172-97 and out-homered 38-16.
