Kelly Johnson, INF/OF

New York Mets

Entering Friday he’d started three games for the Mets at second base — one of the few positions he didn’t play this season for the Braves. He went 2-for-6 with a home run and an RBI in his team debut July 25. In his other two starts, however, he went 0-for-6 with two strikeouts.

Juan Uribe, INF

New York Mets

He’d started two games and appeared in two others for New York entering Friday. He was hitting .364 (4-for-11) with one home run and two RBIs in those games. He played third base in all four games. As of Friday, the Mets were 3-2 since Uribe and Johnson debuted July 25.

Omar Infante, INF

Kansas City Royals

He had gone 480 regular-season games without hitting a home run until he cranked one July 27 against the Indians. He went 4-for-10 with a triple, the home run and an RBI in the three-game series against Cleveland. He was hitting .204 on June 13, but entering Friday he was hitting .274 (43-for-157) after June 13 and had raised his average to .236.

Justin Upton, OF

San Diego Padres

He had 18 home runs and 17 stolen bases as of Friday, making him and Arizona’s Paul Goldschmidt the only two big-leaguers with 17 home runs and 17 stolen bases this season. In seven games since returning from an oblique injury, Upton was hitting .250 (6-for-24) with three home runs and seven RBIs. He was hitting .301 on June 6, but since June 7 he was hitting .181 (26-for-144).

Craig Kimbrel, P

San Diego Padres

Entering Friday he’d picked up saves in all 10 Padres wins this July. He was 29-for-30 in save opportunities this season, tied for third-most in the majors. He’d also recorded successful saves in 20 consecutive chances, the third-longest streak in the National League behind Mark Melancon (30) and Francisco Rodriguez (23).

Jason Heyward, OF

St. Louis Cardinals

Entering Friday he’d reached base safely in five consecutive games, during which he’s gone 5-for-15 (.333). He was hitting .300 in July (27-for-90) with six RBIs, but he hadn’t hit a home run since June 24.

Evan Gattis, DH/OF

Houston Astros

He entered Friday hitting .246 with 16 home runs and 58 RBIs. He hit an RBI triple July 28, his seventh triple of the season. He was the first Astro to hit seven or more triples since former-Brave Michael Bourn did it in 2011. There had only been two other designated hitters to hit at least six triples in a season since 2000 (Johnny Damon hit seven in 2011 and Brad Fullmer hit six in 2002).

Brian McCann, C

New York Yankees

As of Friday he was hitting .209 (14-for-67) in July. The Yankees were 12-7 in the 17 games he’d started in July. His poor month at the plate had dragged his average down from .265 on July 1 to .253 on July 30.
