The Braves have called up top pitching prospect Mike Soroka from Triple-A Gwinnett to make his major league debut Tuesday night in a start against the New York Mets.

The move gives the Braves the three youngest players in the majors on their 25-man roster, as the 20-year-old Canadian right-hander is four months older than Ronald Acuna and seven months younger than Ozzie Albies. Acuna, baseball’s consensus No. 1 prospect, was called up from Triple-A last week and has been sensational so far.

Starting Soroka will allow the Braves to give Sean Newcomb and Julio Teheran an extra day of rest. Teheran, who had been scheduled to start Wednesday, left his start Friday after three innings with tightness in his upper right trapezius behind his shoulder.

Soroka was scratched from his scheduled Sunday start at Gwinnett in order to be on standby if Teheran or Anibal Sanchez (coming back from a hamstring strain) weren’t ready this week.

Soroka, rated 27th in Baseball America’s preseason Top 100 prospects, is 2-0 with a 1.99 ERA in four starts in Triple-A, with 24 strikeouts and five walks in 22-2/3 innings.
