Atlanta United’s Josef Martinez was named the MLS player of the week on Tuesday.

The striker became the league's all-time single-season scoring leader when he tallied his 28th goal in last week's 2-1 win at Orlando. He broke the mark held by Roy Lassiter, Chris Wondolowski and Bradley Wright-Phillips.

The goal, scored in the 74th minute, tied Diego Valeri's record of scoring in nine consecutive games. Martinez can break that record and extend the single-season mark in Sunday's game at D.C. United.

Atlanta United is 14-1-4 when Martinez scores this season.
