My choice for Atlanta United’s man of the match following Saturday’s 2-0 win over Columbus at MAPFRE Stadium:
HECTOR VILLABA
Midfielder
Why: He scored two goals, one in either half, to increase his total eight, which is tied with Miguel Almiron for the team lead.
The first came on an assist by Alec Kann, the first of his MLS career. Villalba was helped by Jonathan Mensah, who misplayed a header. The second goal came on a deflection that Villalba trapped and shot from 8 yards out in the 64th minute.
Villalba was subbed off in the 66th minute. The team will host San Jose on Tuesday.
Villalba declined to speak to the media after the game.
Manager Gerardo Martino said Villalba didn’t want to leave the game. He cramped up following his second goal. Martino said he didn’t want to risk Villalba’s health.
