First-round pick AJ Griffin signed his rookie contract with the Hawks, the team announced Sunday.

The team did not reveal terms of the deal, but rookies selected in the first round typically sign four-year contracts, with the first two guaranteed, with team options in the last two years.

Griffin, who was selected with the 16th overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft, played 39 games (25 starts) during his freshman season with Duke. He averaged 10.4 points and 3.9 rebounds in 24 minutes per game, helping to lead the Blue Devils to a Final Four appearance.

He shot 49.3% from the floor and knocked down 44.7% of his 3-point attempts.

The 18-year-old is set to make his debut in a Hawks uniform at Summer League in Las Vegas. Griffin will get the opportunity to go up against other young NBA players and show why the Hawks were interested in him.

“Just to be able to go out there and just give your best effort, really, and just be competitive, you know, just to compete,” Griffin said at last Monday’s introductory news conference. “I think it’d be great just to go against everyone else in Summer League, and we’re looking forward to just getting onto the court.”

The Hawks kick off Summer League play Saturday against the Jazz.
