FLOWERY BRANCH – Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke grew up in metro Atlanta and went to Collins Hill High.

“But I was never a Falcons fan,” Heinicke confessed to the Washington media Wednesday. “My dad was born in Wisconsin, so right when I came out, I was a cheesehead all the way. I grew up a lot watching (Packers quarterbacks) Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.”

Heinicke went on to star at Old Dominion. He played against the Falcons when he was with the Carolina Panthers on Dec. 23, 2018. The Falcons won 24-10, and Heinicke passed for 274 yards, but tossed three interceptions.

The Falcons and the Washington Football Team will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

“Now, I have no relationship with (Falcons quarterback) Matt (Ryan),” Heinicke said. “After my first start, it was against Atlanta, and he had some very kind words to say, so that meant a lot to me. But there’s, there’s really no relationship there.”

However, Heinicke is a fan of Ryan’s style of play.

“It’s fun watching him play because he knows where to go with the ball at all times, for every look, and he usually does find the open guy,” Heinicke said. “And again, if nothing’s open, he does a great job of finding check-downs.”
