A 70-year-old woman died Tuesday when she fell off the south rim of the Grand Canyon, the fourth fatality at the national park in the past month.
Park officials said that at 1 p.m., they received a call for help west of the Pipe Creek Vista, KNXV reported. The woman was walking on the south rim, about a mile east of Mather Point when she veered off a trail, according to The Associated Press.
Before rescue crews arrived, the woman, whose identity has not been released, fell 200 feet to her death, KNXV reported.
A 15-member rescue recovered the woman's body later Tuesday afternoon, KTVK reported.
It was the fourth fatality at or near the national park since late March.
On March 26, the body of a Japanese tourist was found south of Grand Canyon Village. Two days later, a man from Hong Kong slipped and fell while he was taking pictures at an overlook in the national park, CNN reported.
A 67-year-old California man died April 3 when he fell 400 feet from the edge of the south rim.
According to the AP, Grand Canyon National Park is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States, drawing nearly 6.4 million visitors last year.
