Some clouds overhead Wednesday could mean the chance for a few sprinkles early in the day, according to Channel 2 Action News.

A stray shower is 20% likely in metro Atlanta, which is the highest possibility so far this week but nowhere near the 60% chances still to come. Even with a fair amount of clouds, Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said Wednesday will still be a nice day.

“For the most part you won’t need an umbrella for your Wednesday, even though there are a few sprinkle chances this morning,” he said. “It will not last long, and it will be pretty light stuff, if we get anything.”

Most of the day should be mainly dry, he said. According to Channel 2, temperatures are headed for the mid-50s Wednesday after a mild start in the upper 40s. Atlanta’s projected high is 54 degrees, slightly above average for this time of year.

It will be Thursday that North Georgia is likely to see more widespread rain. Monahan said showers will begin moving into the region overnight.

“Tomorrow morning’s commute could be a little messy, a little wet across North Georgia,” he said. “We will see showers at times though the day on Thursday. I think most of our activity Thursday will be on the light side.”

By Friday, Monahan said a cold front will stall across Middle Georgia and bring periods of heavier rain to areas south of I-20. The mountains the northern Atlanta suburbs are less likely to get downpours, he said.

After that, North Georgia should get a bit of a break. With sunshine and dry conditions in the forecast, Monahan said Saturday should be the best day this weekend.

“Rain rolls back in on Sunday,” he said.

While pavement is mostly dry Wednesday morning, a crash is impacting the commute on I-75 on the Southside, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

Authorities were blocking multiple northbound lanes at the I-285 interchange in Clayton County at 6:30 a.m. With mounting trip times, traffic reporter Mark Arum said it is best to use I-675 or Tara Boulevard to get to the Perimeter.

“No alternate routes needed right now through downtown,” Arum said. “The Downtown Connector is dry and moving well.”
