After an initial burst of cool fall weather followed by a series of tropical storms in North Georgia, it can be hard to know whether the heater or air conditioner is warranted on any given day.
Tuesday morning definitely called for the heater, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said. Much of the region started the day in the 30s, with low 40s in Atlanta.
The cooler start was thanks to a clear sky, Monahan said. The lack of clouds will also mean plenty of sunshine Tuesday afternoon, similar to conditions Monday.
“If you liked yesterday, you’re going to like this afternoon,” he said. “It’s going to be a beautiful day.”
Though chilly, temperatures are right on target for this time of year. Atlanta is expected to reach a high of 61 degrees Tuesday afternoon, which is actually a few degrees below average.
Monahan said with more blue skies in store Tuesday, the cycle of chilly starts and sunshine will continue Wednesday. The National Weather Service has issued freeze warnings for several North Georgia counties overnight, including all of metro Atlanta.
Frost and freeze conditions could kill plants or possibly damage outdoor plumbing, the Weather Service said in an advisory. The freeze warning goes into effect at midnight and is scheduled to expire at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
“It’s actually a little cooler tomorrow,” Monahan said Tuesday. “We’ll stay in the upper 50s in some spots tomorrow afternoon.”
Thursday is the coolest day in the forecast with a projected high of 59 degrees in the city, according to Channel 2. There is no rain to worry about through the end of the weekend.
In fact, Monahan said, North Georgia is not likely to see showers again until closer to Thanksgiving.
“The five-day forecast keeps this winning streak going, weather-wise, with the clear sky, cool mornings and nice afternoons,” he said.
There should be no weather impacts to travel for the rest of the week, according to Channel 2.
