Police released new details from a crash that sent a car down an embankment and blocked lanes at a busy intersection for nearly two hours Thursday morning in Sandy Springs.

The crash, which involved three cars, was moved off to the right of Northridge Road at Ga. 400 about 8:40 a.m., according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

The crash happened when a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta started to turn left onto Ga. 400 from a westbound lane on Northridge Road.

A 2010 Honda Civic was traveling east on Northridge at the time, and the two cars collided, Sandy Springs police Sgt. Sam Worsham said.

In the process, a 2015 BMW stopped on the Ga. 400 off-ramp was “pushed down the embankment” and into a retaining wall.

“The wall held the vehicle and prevented it from going further down the embankment,” Worsham said.

Still, the driver, Marion Schertzer of Atlanta, was taken to Northside Hospital with chest and back pain.

The driver of the Civic, Meaghan Clymore of Snellville, was taken to WellStar North Fulton Hospital after reporting internal injuries.

The Jetta was driven by Hayley Perlis of Athens, according to a Sandy Springs accident report. She was not injured.
