A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car Wednesday morning while crossing a Clayton County street.

According to Clayton County police Officer Shelton Brown, the pedestrian was crossing Tara Boulevard near Ga. 138 just before 6 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle.

“The driver of the car that struck the pedestrian advised responding officers that he did not see the pedestrian in the roadway until he was was directly in front of his vehicle,” Brown said in an emailed statement.

The pedestrian, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle also struck another car while attempting to avoid the pedestrian, police said. No other injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
