Lenox Road has reopened Wednesday after a gas leak shut down traffic for about nine hours, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

Access Underground Services, a third-party contracting company, told the television station that drilling crews were laying a fiber line when they hit an abandoned, unmarked gas line.

The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department said gas was dissipating at a high enough rate that the area didn’t need to be evacuated, Channel 2 reported.

The gas leak, which occurred north of Buford Highway about 4:30 a.m., occurred less than 24 hours after another gas leak shut down Ponce de Leon Avenue in both directions at Penn Avenue and west of Argonne Avenue.

Businesses and an apartment complex were evacuated Tuesday, and there were “high levels of gas readings” in the area, Atlanta Fire Rescue spokesman Cortez Stafford told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
