If you haven’t already gotten on the road headed toward your spring break destination, you may be out of luck.

"Spring break traffic is already happening now," Doug Turnbull in the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center said.

Motorists should “expect a heavier than normal rush hour,” according to the Georgia Department of Transportation, which posted a “Spring Break Traffic Alert” on its website urging travelers “to allow travelers extra time to reach destinations.”

Relief won’t come until at least 7 p.m., the agency said in the post.

“The worst of it will be on I-75 in both directions between Stockbridge and Locust Grove,” Turnbull said. “But we have seen I-75 in Cobb, especially northbound, really packed with extra volume on travel getaway days. And, of course, the Downtown Connector and I-285 will be horrendous.”
