Fatal crashes clogged major interstates in Hall and Newton counties Wednesday morning.

In Hall County, a trucker died after crashing on I-985 north near Plainview Road. According to the Georgia State Patrol, 49-year-old Brian Steven Zegarzewski’s cement hauler was negotiating a curve when it hit a median guardrail, spun out and flipped on its left side.

It caught fire under the Plainview Road overpass and Zegarzewski, a Fletcher, N.C., resident, was ejected and killed.

For several hours after the 5:45 a.m. crash, the interstate was shut down in both directions between Spout Springs Road and Ga. 53. Southbound lanes reopened around 11 a.m., and northbound lanes reopened about an hour later.

Another deadly crash clogged I-20 in Newton County.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a bus was traveling west on I-20 when, around 8:35 a.m., it stopped in the middle lane near Almon Road “for unknown reasons.” It was rear-ended by a car.

The car’s driver, 48-year-old Social Circle resident Misty McDonald, was killed. No one on the bus was injured.

All lanes were reopened by early afternoon.
