School bus involved in 5-vehicle crash
An Atlanta Public Schools bus was involved in a five-vehicle crash Wednesday morning, trapping a woman inside a Mazda and blocking multiple lanes on Northside Drive for hours.
No children were on the bus when it was hit about 9 a.m. near the intersection of Northside Drive and Jett Street, police spokeswoman Lisa Bender said at the scene.
Police said the wreck started when a Nissan Altima heading south on Northside Drive changed lanes and hit the Mazda.
“After being struck, vehicle two was sent into a spin, crossed the double stripes and struck the school bus head on that was traveling in the northbound lanes of Northside Drive,” police Officer Donald T. Hannah said.
The driver hit two other vehicles “in an attempt to control the direction of the bus,” he said.

Crews rescued the trapped woman and took her to Grady Memorial Hospital. She was stable at last check, according to police.
The driver of the Nissan was charged with following too closely and improper lane change, according to Hannah.
The crash led to major delays on Northside Drive. The scene cleared just before 11 a.m.
