A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday morning after they crashed into a car while fleeing a traffic stop on I-75, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Matthew Kyle Blu, 45, died after being thrown from the motorcycle he was riding, according to a GSP incident report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The fatal crash happened at the end of the ramp from the interstate to Mount Paran Road in Fulton County, the agency said. The investigation shut down the exit ramp and the eastbound lanes of Mount Paran Road for hours during the morning commute.

The Georgia State Patrol was on the scene of a crash involving a motorcycle that has blocked the I-75 North ramp to Mount Paran Road.

A GSP trooper stationed on I-75 South spotted the Honda 600 motorcycle speeding down the interstate about 7:15 a.m., according to department spokeswoman Franka Young.

The trooper tried to stop the motorcycle, but the rider sped away, Young said. The rider, later identified as Blu, then left the interstate at Moores Mill Road, re-entered it heading north and exited a second time at Mount Paran.

However, because of the high rate of speed, Blu lost control of the motorcycle and smashed into a Toyota Scion that was stopped at the traffic light at the end of the ramp, Young said. Blu was killed by the impact.

The Scion’s driver suffered injuries as a result of the airbag deploying, Young said.

An investigation is ongoing.
