1. Georgia executes Marcus Ray Johnson for 1994 murder
Johnson was executed Thursday night for the murder of Angela Sizemore, despite his claims that he only had consensual sex with her and did not murder her. Johnson was pronounced dead at 10:11 p.m. in the state's fourth execution this year. Read more.
2. Georgia tries to contain fallout from data breach
After personal information, including Social Security numbers, of more than 6 million Georgia voters was leaked, Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp said Thursday that he fired the technology staffer responsible and confirmed the discs containing all the illegally disclosed information had been either recovered or destroyed. On Thursday, two Democrats from Georgia joined several other Democrats and the Republicans in the House to pass a bill stopping Syrian and Iraqi refugees from entering the country until additional screenings are in place. Read more.
5. Jackson County teenage brothers killed in car wreck
Jefferson High School is mouring the loss of brothers William and Alexander Trimble. According to Georgia State Patrol, the vehicle the brothers were in was hit on the passenger side by a freightliner truck after William, 17, failed to yield. The crash sent both vehicles into a ditch. Read more.
