The faces of women who are on death row

A look at some of the more notable women on death row in the United States.

Kelly Gissendaner took her last breath at 12:21 a.m. Sept. 30, 2015. She was convicted of the 1997 murder of her husband.

Shawna Forde is on death row in Arizona. She was convicted of the murders of 29-year-old Raul Flores and his 9-year-old daughter, Bresenia, in 2009. Forde was a member of the Minutemen American Defense Corps. She, along with two fellow Minutemen, broke into the Flores house by pretending to be immigration officers. The group was looking for drugs and money. Raul Flores' wife escaped the attack by pretending to be dead. All three were found guilty and sentenced to die in 2011.

Lisa Montgomery is on death row in the Federal Medical Center, Carswell, in Fort Worth, Texas, and is the only woman on federal death row. Montgomery was convicted of the 2004 murder of Bobbie Joe Stinnett. Montgomery strangled Stinnett, who was eight months pregnant, before cutting the premature infant from her body. The child was found alive the next day with Montgomery. She was sentenced to death on Oct. 26, 2007.

Christa Pike is is awaiting death in Tennessee. She is the youngest woman to be sentenced to death row since 1976 and was 18 when she murdered Shadolla Peterson, with the help of two others. Pike kept a portion of Peterson's skull and showed it off to friends, which led to her capture. She was sentenced to death in 1996, at the age of 20.

Tiffany Cole is on death row in Florida. She was convicted of the 2005 murder of Carol and Reggie Sumner, both 61, her former neighbors. Cole, along with her boyfriend and two other men, kidnapped and robbed the couple. They then drove the Sumners to Georgia where they were buried alive. In October 2007, a jury found Cole guilty and she was sentenced to death. Two out of three of her accomplices were also sentenced to death. The third was sentenced to life in prison for leading authorities to the bodies.

Rosie Alfaro is on death row in California. She was convicted of the 1990 murder of 9-year-old Autumn Wallace. Wishing to rob the Wallace family, who she knew well, Alfaro went to the home to find Wallace home alone. After stabbing the child more than 50 time, Alfaro robbed the home. After one mistrial, she was found guilt and sentenced to death by gas chamber in 1992.

Antoinette Frank is on death row at the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women. She was a New Orleans police officer who was convicted of the 1995 murders of three people at a restaurant in Louisiana. Frank, along with an accomplice, attempted to rob the restaurant where she sometimes worked as guard. Another off-duty police office acting as guard that night was killed, along with two workers. In September of 1995, both Frank and her accomplice were sentenced to death.

Wendi Andriano was convicted of the 2000 murder of her husband in Arizona. While suffering from a terminal illness and in chemotherapy treatment, Joe Andriano was found bludgeoned and stabbed to death in the apartment he shared with his wife. She claimed to have killed him in self-defense. Four years after the murder, on Dec. 22, 2004, she was sentenced to death by lethal injection.
