The 13-year-old girl killed Sunday afternoon in a wreck that shut down all westbound lanes on I-20 had been shopping in Atlanta with her grandparents.

According to Douglasville police, Candace Garrison, 50, and Kevin Garrison, 49, who are the legal guardians of their granddaughter, were on the way back to Arab, Ala., when their Chevy Blazer swerved and began “side-over-side tumbling” across two lanes of traffic.

Candace Garrison was flown to Atlanta Medical Center and her husband had minor injuries. Three passengers in a smaller SUV involved in the wreck had minor injuries. The teen, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The westbound lanes were closed for almost four hours. The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed.
