A Riverdale man wanted in the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old last week at a Clayton County gas station has turned himself in, police said.

A suspect accused of gunning down a man last week during a child custody exchange at a Clayton County gas station has turned himself in, authorities said Wednesday.

Reginald Hardy, 27, of Riverdale, had been on the run since Nov. 9 after police said he killed a man who tried to intervene in a fight between his girlfriend and the irate father of her children.

Kevin Spruill, 30, was found with several gunshot wounds when police responded to the Chevron at the intersection of Forest Parkway and Tara Boulevard, AJC.com previously reported. According to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, Spruill accompanied his girlfriend to the gas station to meet her children’s father.

The dad, identified as 34-year-old Tony Stevenson, was not happy to see Spruill, deputies said in a news release.

“Stevenson took the mother of his children’s car keys and went back to his car in an attempt to drive off,” the agency said. “The mother went to retrieve her keys by jumping into the vehicle’s driver’s-side window when Stevenson began to strike her with a closed fist multiple times and bit her.”

When Spruill came to his girlfriend’s defense, he was shot multiple times by Hardy, who accompanied Stevenson to the custody exchange, investigators said. Stevenson then pulled his ex-girlfriend into the car and drove away, according to authorities.

Police said Stevenson and Hardy abandoned the car at a nearby hotel, leaving the woman and her four children unharmed. She then returned to the gas station, where her boyfriend was dead.

Arrest warrants were issued for both men, though Stevenson remained at large Wednesday evening.

Hardy is charged with murder, cruelty to children, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, jail records show.

Stevenson is wanted on child cruelty and battery charges related to family violence, police said. Anyone who knows his whereabouts is asked to call 911 or send tips to the sheriff’s fugitive squad at 770-477-4479.
