The warm weekend weather will continue through Sunday in metro Atlanta, but a pop-up shower or two is possible is possible this afternoon.

While there should be plenty of sunshine for those looking to spend the day outdoors, it might be best to bring an umbrella just in case. The afternoon high is expected to reach 88 degrees and the chance of showers is 20%, said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon.

“As we head into Sunday, we’re off to a nice, quiet, dry start,” she said. “The rain chances aren’t zero, but they’re going all the way down to 20%. So only an isolated shower or storm will be possible, probably in the afternoon or evening hours.”

After a soggy, muggy week, the humidity is finally expected to drop as some of that moisture in the atmosphere clears out.

“We’re seeing some drier air starting to move in here, and as it does it will start to feel more comfortable over the next few days,” Deon said.

Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach the 90s on Monday and Tuesday, and there should be plenty of sunshine through at least midweek, according to the latest forecast.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has construction projects planned this weekend that could lead to delays on metro Atlanta interstates. Weekend lane closures are planned in both directions of I-285 and Ga. 400 as road work continues at the major interchange.

And in Henry County, drivers should expect delays in the southbound lanes of I-75 this weekend as crews install lane closures between the I-675 interchange and Ga. 54 in Morrow. All lanes should reopen by 2 p.m. Monday, GDOT said.

The Atlanta Hawks don’t play again until Monday night and the Braves are in Florida this weekend, so at least drivers won’t have any stadium traffic to compete with.
