Metro Atlanta is expected to round out the weekend with plenty of sunshine and a high of 80 degrees.

Sunday’s pleasant weather will also set the tone for the next several days as North Georgia stays warm and mostly dry, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

The day is expected to get off to a cool start, but temperatures will warm quickly by mid-morning, according to the latest forecast.

“It’s still going to be a little cool, but not as chilly,” Monahan said. “Looking to get outside? You picked a great weekend for it.”

Those with early morning plans may want to bring a light jacket, but they probably won’t need it for long. Sunday’s high should reach 80 degrees by the afternoon, which is about average for this time of year.

The humidity is expected to increase by midweek and the moisture could lead to isolated showers on Tuesday and Wednesday, though no widespread downpours are expected.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews will likely take advantage of this weekend’s weather, so drivers can expect to see some delays due to roadwork on metro Atlanta’s highways.

In Cobb County, overnight lane closures are planned along a 10-mile stretch of U.S. 41 for a resurfacing project between Barrett Parkway and the Bartow County line.

Drivers can also expect daytime delays in both directions of Ga. 9 between Milton Parkway to Upper Hambree Road in North Fulton, GDOT said. And in Clayton County, lane closures are expected at the I-75/I-285 interchange due to ongoing roadwork there. All lanes should reopen in time for Monday morning’s commute.

Drivers should also plan for downtown delays near State Farm Arena on Sunday evening as the playoff-bound Atlanta Hawks host the Houston Rockets for the final game of the regular season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
