A 34-year-old Stone Mountain man was killed early Saturday in an accident on I-285 in southwest Atlanta.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Gerald Askew.

A spokesman with the Atlanta Police Department said Askew was traveling north on I-285 when he collided with the guardrail, re-entered the roadway and stopped in one of the lanes.

“The driver exited the vehicle,” APD spokesman Officer John Chaffee said in a statement to Channel 2 Action News. “A second vehicle then struck the first vehicle and it appears that the first vehicle then struck and killed the driver.”

The accident occurred in I-285 between Cascade Road and Mount Gilead.
