In a Georgia city already under siege by the coronavirus, the news got even grimmer Sunday night in Albany, where police responded to three shootings in about two hours.

The violence began shortly after 7 p.m., when the Albany Police Department responded to a shooting in the 900 block of West Residence Avenue. Police found the victim lying on his stomach near the curb.

The victim told police he was walking down the road when a black vehicle pulled up and he was shot by someone inside the vehicle. He was taken to a local hospital. There were no witnesses.

Less than an hour later, a 26-year-old man was shot at the College Park Apartments on Gillionville Road. The victim told police he and his friends were playing cards when two men came into the room. He told police the men left and then returned and tried to rob him.

The victim was shot in the shoulder and thigh. The suspects then ran to their vehicle and drove off.

Then, just after 9 p.m., police said a 38-year-old man was shot in the pelvis on Dorsett Avenue. The victim told police he was near Dorsett Avenue and South Madison Street when a red SUV pulled up to him, and he was shot at several times.

All three of the shootings are open cases.
