Services will be held next week for a Marietta firefighter who suffered an apparent heart attack Thursday while responding to a traffic accident with injuries.

A visitation for Lonnie Lee Nutt, 49, a fire engineer, will from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta. A funeral will be held at the church Tuesday at 11 a.m., with interment at Kennesaw Mountain Memorial Park in Marietta.

On Thursday at around 4:30 p.m., Nutt and fellow firefighters responded to a wreck with injuries on Whitlock Avenue, less than a mile from Station 3, the fire department said in a statement.

“When they arrived on the scene and began to assist with the injured patient, Fire Engineer Nutt fell to the ground with a medical issue of his own,” the fire department said.

The Oklahoma native, who began his firefighting career in Marietta in May 1994, could not be revived, according to Scott Tucker, the city’s fire marshal.

Nutt was a very experienced firefighter, his fellow crew members said. “You could depend on him and he had the expertise to do a lot of things,” Tucker said.

Survivors include his wife, Rosa Nutt of Kennesaw, and one daughter, Cassandra Nutt of Illinois. Contributions may be made to Georgia Fallen Fire Fighters at any SunTrust Bank.
