Roswell police are warning about a recent spike in "entering auto" cases, otherwise known as vehicle thefts, and they're warning the public to be on guard.

Police spokeswoman Lisa Holland says officers are seeing a recurrent pattern of thieves targeting unlocked cars with valuables left in plain view. She said stolen items have included iPads, laptop computers, purses, wallets, credit cards and sunglasses. She said the thefts have been on the rise in all parts of the city with, at times, several new offenses reported each day.

Statistics supplied by the department show about 70 such cases in July, with several neighborhoods showing repeated problems, such as along Riverside Drive, Waters Edge Trace and West Crossville Road.

Police ask you to lock your vehicle and hide your stuff, and to call 9-1-1 if you see any suspicious activity.
