2 rescued when boat sinks in Lake Lanier
Two men duck hunting had to be rescued Friday night when their boat sunk at Lake Lanier.
The two men, whose names were not released, were transported to hospitals for treatment of hypothermia, Hall County fire Chief David Kimbrell said.
The two were in a boat on the southern part of the lake near Garrett Road when the boat began to fill with water, Kimbrell said. Both began discharging their firearms to get the attention of anyone on land, and it worked, Kimbrell said.
A resident of Garrett Road heard the two men and called 911 before rescuing the two men in his own boat. The sinking boat was submerged and the two men were in the water when they were rescued around 6:30 p.m., Kimbrell said.
One man was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center while the other was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
