A grand jury has reached a decision on whether to indict Ferguson, Mo., police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, according to various media reports, including CNN and The Washington Post.

But there has been no indication of what decision was made in the case, which has sparked outcry nationwide because Wilson, 28, is white and Brown was black.

Press conferences are being prepared by the county prosecutors’ office and the Missouri governor and are expected to be held this afternoon, according to reports.

Law enforcement agencies in cities across the country, including Atlanta, are on standby for protests expected to follow the announcement in the case.

Atlanta civil rights advocate the Rev. Markel Hutchins said he plans to meet this afternoon with local police chiefs and community leaders at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church.

“We want to ensure mutual respect between law enforcement and those of us who are poised to protest,” Hutchins said in an emailed statement. “The turmoil witnessed in Ferguson must not be repeated so any potential incitement of riotous anarchy by police or protesters must be thwarted.”
