A Wyoming man and woman allegedly kept a 7-year-old child in an outdoor cage on and off for three weeks.

According to the Laramie Boomerang, the child allegedly used the restroom from the cage, ate in the cage and slept in the cage — even during rainstorms.

The enclosure was about 6 feet across, 5 feet tall and constructed of cattle paneling and wooden snow fence, the newspaper reported.

The child’s mother referred to the cage as a playpen and said the child was kept there because of misbehavior, according to court documents obtained by the Boomerang. The mother’s boyfriend allegedly told deputies he disliked the child but kept the child in the cage for safety reasons.

The man and woman each face one count of child abuse and three counts of felonious restraint, the newspaper reported.
