Now police are considering criminal charges against one of the players involved.

The altercation happened in the third quarter, when Hamburg quarterback Joey Cominsky removed the helmet of Annville-Cleona's Josh Hartman and swung it at him at least two times while he lay on the ground. (Via WPVI)

"This was over the edge with the athlete from Hamburg with what he did. It was over the point there, and I've never seen that before. It's good that nothing serious came out of that." (Via WGAL)

But something serious may be yet to come.

Following the play, Cominsky and another player who intervened in the fight were ejected from the game. Now one of the two, whom police aren't currently naming, could face charges ranging from a misdemeanor to a felony. (Via CBS)

That pending a police investigation. But the players could also be subject to disciplinary action from the school.

Both players will be forced to sit out their next game and could face discipline from the school district, to which documentation of the incident has been submitted. (Via Reading Eagle)

Although the district has said it "will not be doing anything at this point." (Via PennLive)

Following the altercation, the game continued without incident. The investigation is still ongoing.
