Cobb County police are investigating after a man in an electric wheelchair was struck by an SUV and killed Friday afternoon.

The crash happened just after 1 p.m. on Cooper Lake Road between King Springs and Mavell roads, Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Wayne Delk said in a news release. The pedestrian, identified as 81-year-old James Kenneth Wise of Smyrna, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the initial investigation, an 84-year-old Mableton woman driving east on Cooper Lake Road struck the man as he crossed in front of her Honda CRV. The crash remains under investigation, but no charges are expected, Delk told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
