Will metro Atlanta be blessed with nearly perfect spring weather two weekends in a row? Forecasters say yes, although there’s a slight chance of a late-day shower on Sunday.
Just like a week ago, road crews will be taking advantage of the dry weather, with multiple interstate lane closures planned across metro Atlanta.
Here’s what you’ll need to know to avoid the backups:
I-20, I-285 will again be the hot spots
Two eastbound lanes of I-20 will be closed between Six Flags Parkway and Fulton Industrial Boulevard, while two westbound lanes will be shut down from Six Flags Parkway to Riverside Parkway, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday.
On the other side of town, two lanes of I-20 in each direction will be closed all weekend between Almon Road and the Newton County line, while one westbound lane will be closed between Ga. 12 and Ga. 20 in Rockdale County.
On I-285, two lanes in both directions will be closed between Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Buford Highway from 7:30 p.m. Friday through 3 p.m. Saturday.
Also on I-285, two southbound lanes will be closed between Bolton Road and I-20, while two northbound lanes will be close from Bolton Road to South Cobb Drive all weekend.
Plenty of sun
Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said Saturday will be partly sunny, with highs in the mid-80s and lows in the mid-60s.
Sunday will be partly sunny, with a 20 percent chance of showers late in the day. Highs will again be in the mid-80s, with lows in the upper 60s.
Plenty of events
Several outdoor events are planned this weekend, including the Shaky Knees music festival that runs Friday through Sunday at Central Park in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward neighborhood.
Other festivals include the Sweet Auburn Springfest Friday through Sunday in the Auburn Avenue Historic District, the Chastain Park Arts Festival, which will be held Saturday and Sunday at the northwest Atlanta park, the Dunwoody Art Festival on Saturday and Sunday along Dunwoody Village Parkway, and the Pick’n In Grant Park BBQ & Music Festival at the park in southeast Atlanta.
In Paulding County, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds flight demonstration team headlines the Salute America Air Show Saturday and Sunday at the Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport.
On Saturday, the National Association of Letter Carriers will be conducting its 23rd annual “Stamp Out Hunger!” food drive. Customers should leave non-perishable food donations in a bag near their mailbox before their letter carrier arrives.
