DeKalb County police Wednesday identified the teenager shot and killed a day earlier near Lithonia as 16-year-old Delray Crittenden.

The shooting, which police said might have occurred during an attempted robbery, happened about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 6700 block of Browns Mill Ferry Drive.

When officers arrived, they found three people in or near a car in the middle of the road, Channel 2 Action News reported. All had been shot.

DeKalb police Capt. Stephen Fore said Crittenden later died. The two others, also teenagers, were in serious condition Wednesday. Fore said they were expected to survive. Their names were not released.

Detectives identified a person of interest early in the investigation and he “has been cooperative with detectives throughout the investigation,” Fore told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution late Wednesday morning.

That man, whose name has not been released, has not been charged because the investigation so far suggests “he may have been the victim of a robbery attempt,” DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said. “However, this investigation is still ongoing and detectives have additional information to follow up on before any final conclusion is drawn.”
