ATLANTA
Bad storm brings out the best in our good city
The recent storm in Atlanta had tragic consequences, and my heart goes out to the families of those who lost their lives.
I was fortunate to avoid a disaster — thanks to the city of Atlanta and emergency crews who came to my aid following the storm.
A huge tree was about to fall on my house but I (and the house) escaped major damage, thanks to the proactive work of the officials of the city of Atlanta (and the city arborist, who alerted emergency personnel). I was rushed out of my house while the enormous tree was gradually cracking and about to obliterate my home. The police and emergency personnel were kind and caring. Atlanta is a big city with a small-town feel.
Atlanta often gets a bad rap, but it came through for me, and I am very grateful.

There are many reasons to like Buckhead Church
How very cool it was to open up the AJC Living section and see the piece featuring my incredible church, led by the most real preacher ever, Andy Stanley (“Church extends its reach,” April 9). I am more than proud to be a part of this church, which touches lives in a way like no other. Andy’s wisdom and the fashion in which he delivers the message has truly changed my life over the past 12 years. I cannot wait to go every Sunday to be filled with advice to handle all of life’s ups and downs.
There’s one more reason I love it — I met my sweet husband there 10 years ago.

Line about golf movie one of best in long time
Regarding “Like the lead in a Mel Brooks golf movie” (“Closing statement,” Sports, April 11). That was absolutely wonderful, brilliant and the best line I’ve read in a while.

MARTA
Where are the people who care about Atlanta?
I recently arrived at the Dunwoody MARTA station with several unwieldy suitcases and a bum knee, only to find that the elevator from the platform to the parking deck was out of order and had been for a number of days. If not for the kindness of strangers, I’d probably still be trying to get home.
I don’t know how parents with small children and strollers, or the disabled in wheelchairs navigate when the only option is a staircase. I had arrived home that day from Portland and Denver, lovely, park-filled cities that look as if their residents care about them.
It made me wonder: Who cares about Atlanta?

Speaker of House must make better decisions
How can Speaker of the House David Ralston consider himself a champion of ethics and transparency when he has taken his family and some staff on a lobbyist-paid trip to Europe?
As speaker of the House, you have to make better decisions than that.
That’s why the tea party has grown recently.
