There’s a simple way to stop elected thieves
Almost every day, we read in the newspaper, and see on TV news that some local or state official has stolen public funds to enrich themselves. There is a very simple way to stop this.
The state Legislature needs to pass a law which would require that any elected official found guilty of stealing public funds would receive a mandatory 20-year jail sentence with no parole.
It wouldn’t take 2,000 pages to enact a law like that. A short paragraph could do it.

Idea of ‘fellow citizen’ has become too liberal
On a recent weekend, I watched people accept ridiculous prices on popcorn at the movies and on hot dogs at an athletic event — but they balk at spending $10 a year to save many hundreds of lives through improved trauma care. It makes me weep for the souls of my fellow citizens.
I guess the very idea of “fellow citizen” has become obsolete — considered too “liberal.”

Principles have no value unless sacrifice required
Will the public never learn to see through the blatant hypocrisy of politicians, talk show hosts and other “blowhards” who cite lofty principles to support their self-serving and greedy positions?
Whenever those principles require self-sacrifice, these hypocrites run for cover behind different principles.
Principles have no value unless they require sacrifice. These hypocrites are unwilling to sacrifice. They have no principles.

We should remember 2012 isn’t that far away
Around the corner from the first full-time job I had was a doughnut shop with a slogan in the window. It advised you to “keep your eye upon the doughnut and not upon the hole.” We should always appreciate what we have, and not complain about the one that got away.
The recent election results were the culmination of three forces: a rejection of the policies of the Democratic Party’s agenda for the past two years; cable television; and the efforts of disgruntled Americans who funneled their energies through the tea party movement.
The GOP was a welcome guest to that party. They should realize they were just that. They enjoyed the efforts of those who made it all happen, and the endorsements by influential tea party people.
Now they are distancing themselves from the people who helped make those results happen for them. This is the time to embrace the people who helped you, and not shun them.
We should remember that 2012 is not that far away. Those tea partiers are watching, as well as their seasoned senior friends.
