Democrats admit savings don’t exist
The recent news that the Secretary of Health and Human Services feels the longterm care provisions of Obamacare are unsustainable should allow us to do further review before it’s too late. The Democrats, as they worked to implement the law, made it clear that Obamacare would save us money. Most of the savings were a result of this long-term care provision. Now that they admit the savings are nonexistent, we should demand a more comprehensive review of the law’s major provisions. We cannot afford a trillion-dollar mistake, which this seems to be. We must ask the Congressional Budget Office, Senate and House to review the law before it is fully implemented, and eliminate it if previous cost estimates are wrong.

No 90 /10 allotment? Support won’t be there
My husband and I would gladly vote for the proposed transportation sales tax if the revenue allotment were 90 /10 — 90 percent for high-speed rail and 10 percent for the customary bandages for roadways. Since that isn’t happening, we will vote against this.

Protesters are wrong on what they deserve
Regarding the Woodruff Park protests, what are these people protesting? Do they need a job, a place to live or grocery money? All I have heard is what they believe they deserve: The “wealthy” people and big corporations should pay for their education, give them a job, house them and pay them a salary so they can have a lifestyle that their neighbor has, or they had living at home. My question as a parent is: What have you done to help yourself or someone else? There are many jobs out there, but you feel you could not work in food service or at a grocery store or a gas station. You would have to start at minimum wage. This is unacceptable. I am sure that there are good people at this park who really need help. All I have seen or heard tells me that most are angry because someone has more than they do.

In a debate, president surely can hold his own
In “Intellectually, Obama way behind Gingrich” (Opinion, Oct. 18), never mind that Obama is a Harvard graduate and taught constitutional law. According to Sowell, in a debate, Newt Gingrich would chew Obama up and spit him out. I have news for Sowell: Obama can hold his own in a debate with any of the Republican candidates. He earned the right to be where he is. Sowell has a right to his opinion — but when he questions the intelligence of another man, he has crossed the line.
