An off-duty Fulton County deputy had his vehicle stolen Monday morning while he was checking on people involved in a crash, authorities said.
Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Franka Young said the deputy was checking on the wreck at I-285 and Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway about 8:50 a.m. when someone stole his Land Rover. Specifics about how the vehicle was stolen were not immediately available.
The vehicle was located nearby, however, and a pursuit ensued.
“The suspect was traveling on I-20 eastbound and exited the highway at McDaniel Street,” Young said. “The pursuit ended at Verbena (Street) and the suspect fled the vehicle on foot.”
An individual was detained, Young said, but their specific involvement with the incident was not clear.
There were no crashes or injuries reported in the chase. No further information was immediately available.
Fulton County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Deputy Tracy Flanagan confirmed that a deputy was en route to headquarters to “report circumstances related to an alleged theft” but said she had no other details.
It was unclear if the deputy’s service weapon and badge were in the vehicle when it was stolen.
