R. Stephen Green is set to be sworn in as DeKalb County Schools’ new superintendent Wednesday afternoon, school officials said Monday.

DeKalb County Schools spokesman Quinn Hudson said a swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 3:30 at the DeKalb County Superior Courthouse, 556 N. McDonough in Decatur. Chief Administrative Judge Gregory Adams will preside over the ceremony.

Green is coming to Georgia from Kansas City, Mo., where he is superintendent of Kansas City Public Schools. His last day there is today, based on a stipulation that he stay through today to receive a $25,000 retention bonus, part of his contract there.

Green was selected by the DeKalb County Board of Education in late May after being selected as the sole finalist for the job after a nearly six-month search. He replaces Michael Thurmond, whose contract ended June 30. Thurmond was selected for the job in February 2013.
