Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo is inducing awww's across the internet with a recently surfaced clip of him defending a young fan.

Last year at a public event, a boy apparently tried to ask the Real Madrid player a question in Ronaldo's native language, Portuguese. The problem? Clearly Portuguese is not the boy's first language, and he struggled a bit.

But when the audience began to laugh at the boy's attempt to get the question out, Ronaldo scolded the crowd.

He asked the audience, "Why the smile? Why?"

He then stood up for the kid, saying, "He speak good Portuguese, very good. They should be happy, because he tried very hard."

The audience then changed their tune, applauding for the boy and Ronaldo's celebration of his effort.

According "Bleacher Report," the event took place in Japan last year, but there's no word on why the clip is surfacing now.
