Fans of succulent smoked meats, homestyle fixins and southern music will be in for a treat this summer in Decatur.
The BBQ, Blues, and Bluegrass Festival will return August 14 to celebrate its 20th anniversary at Legacy Park. Like most events, the festival was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sponsored by the Community Center of South Decatur, the event will take place from noon to 8 p.m. The Decatur City Commission approved a temporary beverage license Monday, so the festival can sell beer and wine at the park, located at 500 South Columbia Drive.
The festival will feature four barbecue vendors and performances from Smith & Calvert, Blair Crimmins and The Hookers and G. Love & Special Sauce. Tickets cost $30 and can be purchased at decaturbbqfestival.com.
The festival will be the first public gathering Decatur will host this year, since the city’s inaugural Juneteenth event was canceled this past weekend due to stormy weather.
The city plans to host several other festivals within the next few months. Four annual events — the AJC Decatur Book Festival, Decatur Craft Beer Festival, Decatur Arts Festival and Amplify Decatur Music Festival — will all take place during the first weekend of October.
