A motorist was killed late Monday when he lost control of his car on a Gwinnett County road and was hit by an oncoming car, police said.

Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said Kyle Campbell was driving a black Acura RSX westbound on Club Drive near Cruise Road just before 10:30 p.m. when he lost control in a sharp curve and traveled into the eastbound lane.

The Acura was struck in the driver’s side door by an eastbound Lexus GS300. Campbell, 27, of Lawrenceville, died at the scene, Ritter said.

The driver of the Lexus, 47-year-old Vatche Markarian of Lawrenceville, sustained only minor injuries and refused treatment, according to Ritter.

He said speed on the part of the Acura was believed to be a contributing cause in the wreck, but it’s unknown if alcohol was a factor.
