A MARTA bus driver and multiple passengers were injured Wednesday night when a SUV crashed into the vehicle in Midtown, police said.

A MARTA bus driver and five passengers were injured Wednesday night when a SUV crashed into the vehicle in Midtown, authorities said.

Those on the MARTA bus were taken to a hospital to be checked out, Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer TaSheena Brown told AJC.com. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

According to police, the SUV ran a red light and hit the bus at the intersection of Peachtree Street and North Avenue about 9:30 p.m. The impact caused the SUV to overturn.

The driver of the SUV, 51-year-old Christopher Scott, was found to be at fault “for failure to obey traffic control device which was the cause of the accident,” Brown said. He was arrested and taken to the detention center at Grady Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Scott is facing charges of DUI and failure to obey a traffic control device. He is expected to be booked into the Fulton County Jail once he is released from the hospital.

All lanes of Peachtree Street at North Avenue were shut down while police investigated, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. The lanes reopened by 11:30 p.m.
