Marietta police have arrested an 18-year-old in connection with a crash last Sunday that killed an elderly pedestrian.

Ashli Mitchell was charged with second degree homicide by vehicle. Mitchell also was charged with: failure to maintain lane; driving too fast for conditions; child restraint violation; required tire tread depth; and no license.

Joe Lewis Burns, 78, of Marietta, was hit and killed while walking down a sidewalk in Marietta. Police said a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country minivan driven by Mitchell was headed north on Franklin Road when Mitchell lost control and the vehicle left the road, hitting Burns. The minivan went through a fence and down and embankment.

Mitchell has been taken to Cobb County Adult Detention Facility in Cobb County.
