A man was shot and killed on a busy southwest Atlanta street early Sunday morning, police said.

Officers found him “shot multiple times” on Whitehall Street outside the Blue Ivory nightclub just after midnight, Atlanta police spokesman Sgt. John Chafee said in a statement.

The man, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office as 31-year-old Ashton Davis, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation suggests Davis was friends with the shooter, police said.

“The victim was an employee of one of the clubs nearby or a parking attendant,” Atlanta police Lt. Andrea Webster told reporters at the scene. “We know there was some kind of verbal altercation that led to a physical altercation.”

Police have not announced any arrests in the case.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
