A Hall County man has been arrested and charged with multiple counts related to the attempted kidnapping of a 20-year-old woman who police say was randomly targeted near Lake Lanier.
Jeffrey Shane Moore, 55, of Gainesville, was arrested by Hall sheriff’s deputies Wednesday and charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping with bodily injury and false imprisonment, the agency announced on social media.
The charges stem from an incident the evening of July 3, when investigators say Moore stopped his car near the victim, who was walking down Flat Creek Road near Lake Lanier. Investigators say Moore forced the woman into his car, inflicting cuts, scrapes and bruises. He also assaulted the woman with a pair of scissors, according to the investigation.
The woman screamed and resisted and was able to escape the car, the sheriff’s announcement said, leading Moore to drive away from the scene.
Based on the victim’s account of the kidnapping attempt and information about the vehicle, investigators were able to identify Moore as a suspect with the help of the Oakwood Police Department. Hall deputies located Moore’s car at a shop where it had been towed for repairs. Inside the car, investigators said they found the scissors used in the kidnapping along with other evidence.
Moore is being held at the Hall County Jail without bond. In addition to the kidnapping charges, he has been charged with violating probation.
This is not Moore’s first brush with the law. In 2013, he was arrested and charged with stealing more than $20,000 of bronze animal statues from a Gainesville funeral home, Hall sheriff’s office spokesman Derreck Booth confirmed in an email to AJC.com. However, Booth could not confirm if Moore’s current charges for probation violation stem from the 2013 theft case.
